Happy belated 30th birthday AVL!
Was going raw your gift to yourself? Wise girl :)
I was 30 in September and my gift to myself was a 10 day Buddhist meditation course. One of the hardest things I've ever done but I'm reaping the rewards now.
x
Also happy 30th birthday to sv3!
I've been to a raw restaurant in London called Saf, the food is delicious.
Where do you live?
x
Still very much into grapes! I have had them for lunch everyday for more than a month!
Oh, ya and I'm still obsessed with any type of melons...breakfast everyday since July!
I know, my diet is not very varied, but I like it like that and I just eat what I like until I get sick of it!
Thanks DeborahB! (Happy belated birthday to you too!)
I was raw before my birthday but I was gradually slipping back into my old habits. So my present to myself is to once again eat raw and feel good about myself. This week was ok, with only 2 days that I slipped (which is better than the 5 or 6/week I had all of October). My goal for next week is to only have 1 cooked meal and then eventuall y have none or one in a blue moon.
Happy early Birthday sv3! Don't worry, turning 30 isn't so bad once you get passed the psychological trauma of the number!
AVL: I've just finished a grapes obsession! I adore red grapes. The bigger the better!
Currently I'm going through a fats obsession. Avocados, nuts and seeds. I just cannot get enough of them. I'm not usually this fat obsessive. I've been on an MSM megadose cleanse for 3 weeks and am wondering if it's anything to do with that? Some research is required.
I used to be incredibly nesh, always had cold hands and feet.
After being high raw for around 18 months this changed and now I cope much better with cold temperatures, and hot temperatures. My body's mechanisms for staying at a constant temperature seem to be in much better working order than all of my friends.
I dry skin brush every day and find that this has helped circulation (as well as give me beautifully soft and smooth skin).
Sorry if I am saying something stupid here, but I just want to help.
I don't have an ED, but I find myself thinking more about food when I have to decide what and how much to eat four times a day. I know the problem you all face is much bigger than this, but maybe it would help to have a menu already planned for each meal, where you state the foods and the amounts. All you need to do is sit at the end of the day and write down what you ate and what you would like to keep from that day s menu. After two weeks, you will have a planned menu that you can use as a guide for the next two weeks. The certainty of knowing what food comes next and the next day and so on may help diminish your anxiety, as well as the time you spend thinking about food . At least it does help me.
i think it's best to avoid lots of salt and fat especially when eating cooked.
if i were you i would do potatoes, rice, veggies, some beans if you feel is necessary.
those should be your staple 30%. of course no one is perfect.
Hi lilmisssunshine23, I think most people doing 70% get the other 30% from helathier cooked foods, such as quinoa, bean soups, vegetable soups, etc. rather than from pizza, spagetti, chocolate cake, white bread, etc. (you get the idea). This transition helps a lot since at the beginning you will be figuring out what things you like, and belive it or not you will develop your own menu. So while you are thinking, (and I bet more than once you will be hungry and not knowing what toe at) you may as well have these cooked options at hand, rahter than in a hunger attack going to the Mc place and some french fries.
For many people, the early stages are the hardest, and in my modest opinion, I think that it is best to have a day in the week where you choose your devil and allow yourself to eat something out of the diet. I used to eat popcorn, a piece of chocolate, a slice of white bread with butter, a serving of ice cream, etc. but I only allowed it once, once a week.
After a while, your cravings will diminish (believe it or not)! Isn't wonderful??
I wish you the best, the virtues here are to be patient ,and patient, and then a little more patient with yourself. Think that the choice is yours to make, in every meal, or in front of any chocolate cake or brownies that you may come across.
I've kind of been doing 80/10/10 for the past few months, but I haven't perfected it yet, I still need to tweek certain things for it to be accurate. I can do it most of the days, but then there are days (like yesterday) where I eat cooked SAD foods. I really need to eliminate this because it is totally ruining all my efforts to succeed my goals. This usually happens about twice a week and I am determined to stop it. It's better than what it used to be, so I just need totally set my mind to it.
I don't want to put too much pressure on myself though because sometimes when I do this I let myself down and quit. So I'm taking this one day at a time.
liger99, today is a new day and do something to stop the cycle. I delt with this when I gained 20lbs from traveling around in europe. Do you feel bad when you binge on raw vegan food? If not then I would say eat a bowl of nice strawberries or apple. The sweetness will satisfy your craving and it will be good for your body too .. and low in cals if your counting like most of us do. I delt with body image problems and was in an awful cycle or restricting, binging, and sometimes purging. I have a blog www.myreallyrawlife.blogspot.com .. I am so devoted to it and helping others so follow it if you like. I have great raw vegan low fat recipes that I am adding to it with photos so keep checking it. Dont get down on yourself because of a binge, your already being healthier by asking for help and knowing about raw veganism.
I hope this helps.. :D Have a great day!!!
What do you do after a binge?
I succeeded in not purging, which is major, but now I dont know what to do. Ive gained weight from months of binging and purging, and now I dont know what to do, ot how im going to get through it. Please help
I LOVE MARYLAND. my moms really good friend lived there for a while in this little cute town in an old victorian style house. I was only 10 when we went but I remember that we went to this maple tree farm where they made maple syrup and it was really nice. I am right there with you, when talking about raw veganism.. it tends to raise a million questions. First one of course is always, "where do you get your protein?" haha. Everyone in west texas is so standoffish about the subject, but in Austin... no way. Ah I love austin texas if you ever go to texas go to austin, it's hippie city and there are raw vegans everywhere. i didn't mention this in my blog--well kind of.. i am doing it for health benefits, but mainly to help prevent cancer. EVERYONE in my family has died of cancer and recently I just lost someone very special. So it's really made me aware of SAD and preservatives and what not. I think that was my "spark" like you mentioned about :D keep checking my blog bc I will post tons of stuff I promise and maybe it will be something that will help you or another :)
To answer your question, no you don’t have to be supper healthy but your body will feel better if you put more good in. Just do your best and you will see it becoming an easy life style rather than see it as a sacrifice. Some simple diet changes would be going off of refined sugar, flour, dairy, and any ingredient that you have to get out the dictionary to understand what you’re eating. :-) My experience was I went off the Standard American Diet (SAD) by moving away from the sodas, meat and potatoes, and other junk. Then over the next two years I went vegetarian, then vegan and then raw as I educated myself about eating healthy and experiencing my body healing I did not want to go back to my old life style. Since you are lucky enough to already know about eating raw, I’m sure you will do things a lot quicker than I. Love and Light.
Just to clear things up, I started out with only one a day for quite a few weeks. With the one a day I was getting the stomach pain. I started to drink more because I loved the sweet taste and I thought I was doing a good thing. As I progressed through my cases of kombucha, I found myself drinking more and more. The stomach pain did not seem to change, but stayed about the same intensity. It was when I started upping the kombucha intake that I noticed all my other symptoms even though I was continuing my 100% raw way of life with no other major changes. I would suggest to anyone reading this post to view the links that eecho posted above, if you haven’t already. They really assisted me in seeing that I was not alone with these issues. This is just my personal observation. As we know everyone experiences things differently. Love and light.
This looks too wonderful but can I just check - do you add the salty juice from the second half of the marrow, and then not use the flesh?
I assume this recipe is for a big marrow, which I'm hoping to grow soon. Meanwhile at the shops we only get baby marrow - will have to try using a few, maybe peeled. The sweeter, blander flavour of the big marrow is sure to work better.
Sprouted peanuts!! They're amazing!
I loved turning 30! I couldn't wait! I have so much to look forward to and am having more fun now than ever before.
Good luck with the raw. You can do it because you really want to do it x
